The MATTHEW 5:44 CHALLENGE was founded in 2023 by James and Trisha Fenimore as a radical 30-day act of obedience to Jesus’ words: “Love your enemies and pray for them who persecute you and seek to do you harm.”

Definitely not. November 1st is the official start date for the MATTHEW 5:44 CHALLENGE each year, where Christians all over the world embark upon this life-changing journey together. Many— especially those embarking on their very first MATTHEW 5:44 CHALLENGE— find comfort, strength and support, knowing they are taking part in it alongside so many others.

This is a very frequently asked question and usually depends on the individual, who they’ve chosen to pray for, and how the Spirit works.
If you pray for a person who has hurt you profoundly in your life (an unfaithful ex, an abusive parent, etc.), it likely will not be easy. (Though some have said it’s been surprisingly so!)
That being said, we have found over the years that the Lord rewards those who boldly pursue His command. The level of freedom found on the other side of the CHALLENGE usually depends on the depth of obedience at the start.
